1833/00/00 William Godwin Work At aged 77, Godwin becomes Office Keeper and Yeoman Usher of the Receipt of the Exchequer with lodgings in New Palace Yard. A sinecure position, one of his duties is to oversee the sweeping of the chimneys in the Palace of Westminster.
1834/10/10 The Receipt of the Exchequer, with all its complicated machinery and checks, is terminated along with many other sinecures positions abolished under the provisions of a Parliamentary Act. Godwin will ask Prime Minister Melbourne for help, but to no avail.

1835/02/09 In the 'Treasury Letter', Robert Peel assures William Godwin that his position at the Palace of Westminster is safe.
1836/04/07 William Godwin Died William Godwin dies at his official residence in New Palace Yard, close by the entrance to Westminster Hall, Palace of Westminster.
