Roasted Meats, Chicken Paprikash and Burek

Three Brothers Restaurant is a notable Serbian eatery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Bay View neighborhood, known for serving traditional Serbian cuisine inside a beautifully preserved Schlitz-built tavern. The restaurant has earned widespread acclaim — including the James Beard Foundation America's Classics Award — for its dedication to family heritage and slow, handmade cooking. Serbian immigrant Milun Radicevich opened the restaurant in 1956 and it remains family-run today. The dining room retains its vintage saloon scale, so seating is limited and reservations are highly recommended. The restaurant accepts cash or check only.

Signature dishes include the Burek, a flaky pastry filled with cheese, beef, or spinach that requires 45-60 minutes to prepare unless pre-ordered with a reservation. Other specialties include Sarma (pickled cabbage leaves stuffed with seasoned beef and rice), Chevapchichi (hand-rolled grilled beef sausages), Goulash and Chicken Paprikash, and a celebrated Roast Goose served with stuffing and house-pickled cabbage. Architecturally, the restaurant occupies one of the most intact surviving Schlitz tied-house taverns in the United States. Built in 1895 of cream-city brick, the Queen Anne structure features a rounded corner turret, arched windows, decorative brickwork, and the Schlitz belted-globe trademark carved prominently above the entrance. Its historic 1890s saloon atmosphere has framed decades of Serbian culinary tradition. - AsNotedIn
