Meseta Central is a physiographic province of the European continent. The oldest and most complex geologic formation of the Iberian Peninsula, the meseta (plateau) extends over 81,000 square miles (210,000 square km) with an average elevation of 2,165 feet (660 metres) Centered around Madrid, the plateau encompasses over 81,000 square miles (210,000 square km) and with an average elevation of 2,165 feet (660 metres). Tin the western, the landmass slopes gently toward the Atlantic Ocean, creating the basins of the Duero, Tagus and Guadiana rivers.
