Chateau Ephemere was built for American millionaires William and Anne Vanderbilt as a residence while pursuing their passion for thoroughbred racing. Designed by Henri Guillaume, French workers were happy when the Vanderbilts created hundreds of jobs and provided a school, but were amazed when Vanderbilts supplied temporary wooden structures to protect them from rough weather during construction. - AsNotedIn
