The Saint-Louis Quarter is a district in Versailles, France, originally established by King Louis XIV on his former "Deer Park," south of the Ville Neuve quarter (now the Quartier Notre-Dame) and just outside the palace. Two roads — Rue Royale and Rue d'Anjou — were laid out for the new development, intersecting at a space known as the Place du Parc-aux-Cerfs. The King granted 473 plots to "quality people" and trusted servants, with the requirement that they construct buildings on their lots. Houses were gradually erected, kept "not too high" so as not to obstruct the view toward the palace. Today the Quartier Saint-Louis is notable for the Carres Saint-Louis market area, the elegant Cathedrale Saint-Louis and the 17th-century garden of the Potager du Roi. - AsNotedIn
