Tama is a small city in Tama County, Iowa, situated on the Iowa River just south of Toledo, the county seat. Its turn-of-the-19th-century commercial district along West 3rd Street spans two blocks between Siegel Street and State Street, while the town's best-known landmarks include the Lincoln Highway Bridge and the historic King Tower Cafe on the east side. Although King Tower Cafe closed in 2020, weekday meals are still available at Spanky's South inside the Tama Livestock Auction — a third-generation livestock market where many visitors come for lunch rather than to pick out a steer, though the option remains if one feels unexpectedly ambitious. - Phantom, July 2026
