Western Docklands, Hull

  • Vicinity: Hessle Rd, Manor House St, Humber Estuary
  • Type: District

Western Docklands is a commercial maritime district in Kingston upon Hull, England. Developed around Albert Dock, which opened in 1869 to accommodate larger steamships and the expanding North Sea fishing industry, the area remains an important center of port operations. Unlike the former Town Docks just to the east, which have been redeveloped for leisure and cultural uses, Albert Dock continues to operate as a working commercial dock under Associated British Ports. The dock handles general cargo, supports ship repair and marine services, and serves as the principal base for Hull's remaining fishing fleet. - AsNotedIn
