Health Trip is a short story by French author Guy de Maupassant. - AsNotedIn
Mr Panard was a prudent man who was afraid of everything in life. He was afraid of tiles, falls, cabs, railways, all possible accidents, but above all illnesses.
He understood, with extreme foresight, how our existence is endlessly threatened by everything that surrounds us. The sight of a step made him think of sprains, broken arms and legs, the sight of a window pane with horrible glass wounds, the sight of a cat with gutted eyes; and he lived with meticulous prudence, a thoughtful, patient, complete prudence.
